Engine Bay Overview

What You MUST Know

They want to see that you can identify each component and explain its purpose + how to check levels. You DO NOT need to touch anything.

1. Engine Oil

📍 Location: Dipstick (usually yellow/orange)
✅ Check: Pull out, wipe, dip again, level is between MIN and MAX. Ensure engine is cold and car is not on a hill.
💡 Why: Lubricates engine

2. Coolant

📍 Location: Translucent tank with coloured liquid
✅ Check: Level between MIN and MAX when engine is cold
💡 Why: Stops engine overheating

3. Brake Fluid

📍 Location: Small reservoir near the back of engine bay. (Usually close to brake pedal)
✅ Check: Level between MIN and MAX
💡 Why: Lets brakes work properly

4. Windshield Washer Fluid

📍 Location: Blue cap usually
✅ Check: Visual check / top up as required
💡 Why: Clear visibility

5. Engine Coolant Fan / Belts

📍 (if asked)
✅ Check: Belts shouldn't be torn or loose
💡 Trick: They rarely ask this
